Africa-Press – Namibia. The Ombaye Fishing company has donated 100 mattresses to pupils at Dr Abraham Iyambo Secondary School in Oshikunde constituency of Ohangwena region.

The donation worth N$76 000 came after the school’s enrolment for the 2025 academic year exceeded the normal hostel accommodation figure, leaving some boarders without mattresses.

Speaking at the handover this week, Ombaye Fishing’s executive chairman Libolly Haufiku said as a corporate citizen, the company has always responded to calls and sometimes, on its own, offered to generously share the country’s resources with other needy Namibians.

“We believe the Namibian child must be equipped for tomorrow, and Ombaye Fishing, as a partner with the Namibian child, will always try its best to assist you where we can. We have a clear record as a corporate citizen that we, as a fishing company, are just custodians of the fish. The fish does not belong to Ombaye; it belongs to you. That is the reason why whatever we get out of it, we share with other Namibians,” said Haufiku.

He urged pupils to consider enrolling in technical vocational schools, stressing that the country is moving into certain industries that need technical vocational skills, such as oil, gas and hydrogen.

“I advise some of you that, when you finish your Grade 12, branch out to technical vocational training. You will not suffer because the market needs you. You will never go wrong; this I can assure you,” he said.

Accepting the donations, regional deputy director of programme and quality assurance in the education directorate, Palisha Ngulu, commended the donors for the good gesture, highlighting that the donation reflects the company’s deep commitment to education.

“Your generous donation comes at the right time when we are working hard to improve the living conditions for our hostel boarders, many of whom come from distant and underserved communities. These mattresses will go a long way in ensuring pupils have a comfortable place to rest, which directly supports their health, focus and overall success,” said Ngulu.

She urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the donation.
