Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Oshikuku Young Stars were crowned champions of the Ogongo annual sports tournament, marking their third consecutive victory since the tournament’s inception.
As the champions, the Oshikuku Young Stars team claimed the top spot with a prize of N$14 000, a floating trophy, and gold medals. Oshana NamPol secured the second runner-up position, walking away with N$8 000 and silver medals.
In the meantime, Eleven Boys and KIBO FC each received N$3 000 for their respective third and fourth-place finishes.
The tournament organizer, Alweendo Nangolo, mentioned that an amount of N$50 000 was invested in this year’s tournament as a means of empowering the community. Nangolo revealed that 16 teams vied for the coveted top prize, with Deputy Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi, serving as the tournament’s main sponsor.
“The tournament was a resounding success, attracting a large number of football fans from Omusati and the surrounding areas,” he said.
He further noted that in terms of safety and law enforcement, the Namibian Police Force played a crucial role, ensuring that no criminal activities were reported.
Nangolo promised another exciting tournament for 2024.
