Africa-Press – Namibia. OTJIWARONGO has huge potential that needs to be unleashed to contribute to the economic development of the town and the country at large.
Uutoni made these remarks during the launch of the 2024–2029 Strategic Plan of the Otjiwarongo Municipality. The plan will serve as an action plan guiding the implementation of set plans and priorities of the town under the theme “Together for a Smart, Vibrant, and Sustainable Otjiwarongo of Excellence.”
According to Uutoni, a strategic plan will be effective and relevant when the municipal council involves all stakeholders with an interest in town development affairs.
“Our government avails financial resources to local authorities and other public entities on an annual basis to render services to the public,” he said.
He added that this includes, among other things, the provision of serviced land and housing.
Uutoni added that this document will be their guiding tool, and it is the responsibility of local elected leaders to ensure that its content is fully implemented for the next five years in line with government policies and legislation.
He then reiterated his Ministry’s assurances that they shall commit to ensuring transparent, accountable, and prudent utilization of resources committed to our sector.
Town Mayor Gottlieb Shivute acknowledged the steadfast commitment by the ministry to support Local Authorities’ mechanisms for effective and sustainable urban and rural development in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
“This Plan stands as a testament to our unwavering commitment to serving our residents,” he said.
Shivute indicated that in the face of unprecedented uncertainty and rapid technological innovation, it has become imperative for them as local authorities to act with foresight and innovation.
With this in mind, Shivute indicated that the strategic planning process, developed under the theme “Together for a Smart, Vibrant, and Sustainable Otjiwarongo of Excellence”, reflects the Council’s collective ambition to reposition our town as a leading vibrant centre of smart service excellence.
