Africa-Press – Namibia. NKURENKURU – A total of 1 779 cadet constables from the 2024/2025 police basic training course intake have graduated and have been deployed nationwide.

This forms part of a broader strategy to enhance national safety and security, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said while delivering her State of the Nation Address on Wednesday.

An additional 426 officers were also appointed to the Namibia Correctional Service, while 404 recruits are currently undergoing basic training. A total 2 419 Namibian Defence Force (NDF) members were trained in combat and academic skills, providing them with the necessary abilities to operate effectively in the digital era, as per the sixth National Development Plan.

The president further informed the nation that 1 705 youths in the 18th recruit intake are undergoing basic military training and are due to graduate in May 2026. The next intake will include 1 500 young people, including 600 National Youth Service graduates.

“The goal is to strengthen and rejuvenate the force while integrating young talent from all regions,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.

The president further stated that support during national disasters such as floods, droughts and veld fires among others, remains a secondary role of the NDF.

“Self-sustenance initiatives operated by August 26, including uniform production, infrastructure development, logistics services, and technology innovation, continue to add value to the work of the Defence Force,” the president concluded.
