Africa-Press – Namibia. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah yesterday dismissed Natangwe Ithete from his positions as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, with immediate effect. The announcement was made through a statement issued by Presidential Press Secretary Jonas Mbambo, who said the decision was made in line with Article 32 (6) of the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia.

“President Nandi-Ndaitwah has, in accordance with Article 32(6), made an executive decision to relieve Honourable Ithete of his duties as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, with immediate effect,” Mbambo stated.

He added that, to ensure stability and effective coordination within the key economic sector, the President personally assumes responsibility for the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, effective immediately. No reason was given for the expulsion. The President is, however, expected to address staff at the ministry today, where further details regarding the decision are anticipated.

“Maybe that’s where we are going to be informed why the minister has been relieved of his duties. For now, all we know is that he was relieved of his duties,” Mbambo told New Era in response to follow-up questions.

Despite his dismissal from the Executive, Ithete will remain a Member of Parliament.

Mbambo said the President has expressed appreciation to Honourable Ithete for his service to the government and the people of Namibia.

He added that the Presidency reaffirms its commitment to sound governance, accountability and the effective implementation of national priorities in pursuit of Namibia’s shared vision of sustainable and inclusive development.
