President Nandi-Ndaitwah Inaugurates Ndoro Memorial Hostel

Africa-Press – Namibia. PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has officially inaugurated the Ndoro Memorial Hostel at Ndoro Memorial Combined School in Bwabwata National Park, Zambezi Region — marking the completion of a long-awaited project that began in 2016.

“The establishment of this hostel is a manifestation of the Government’s commitment to providing learners with an environment conducive to learning, enabling them to become meaningful contributors to the socio-economic and sustainable development of our country,” the President said.

She revealed that the hostel has the capacity to accommodate approximately 320 learners and is equipped with solar power, a standby generator, three boreholes, and a sewage treatment plant designed to repurpose wastewater for school gardening projects.

“All these features make this hostel the embodiment of sustainable standards. This aligns with our national development agenda framework, NDP6, and Vision 2030, whereby the Government aims to achieve educational infrastructure that is of good quality, safe, and accessible by 2030 — fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment,” the President added.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah noted that Ndoro Memorial Combined School serves a large number of learners from minority indigenous communities, specifically the Khwe community residing in Bwabwata National Park. She emphasised the Government’s commitment to meeting the needs of marginalised communities.

“The Government reaffirms its commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality education across Namibia and recognises the critical role that hostels play in the lives of learners, particularly those from remote communities. This enables learners to pursue their education effectively, free from the daily challenges of walking long distances and the unsafe conditions they might otherwise face,” she added.

The President hailed the establishment of the Ndoro Memorial Hostel as a testament to the Government’s unwavering dedication to investing in the future of Namibia’s youth, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the project’s completion. However, she also criticised the unacceptable delay in its execution and called for greater efficiency in future Government projects.

“While I appreciate the completion of this hostel, I am disturbed to learn that its construction began in 2016 and took nearly a decade to complete. This undermines the timely delivery of Government projects and services to our people — and it is not acceptable. I therefore urge those entrusted with the responsibility for delivering Government projects to ensure they are completed within the agreed timeframes,” the President urged.
