Africa-Press – Namibia. Acting Hardap regional health director Berit Platt says 20 new positive Covid-19 cases have been recorded at Rehoboth since 8 February.
Platt says a Grade 2 teacher at St Josephs Primary School and a Grade 11 pupil at Dr Lemmer High School tested positive on the same day.
He said this in a letter addressed to the director of education on Friday.
In the letter schools are instructed to postpone all interschool sport activities planned for 19 to 23 February, and to enforce Covid-19 health and safety protocols.
“The current Covid-19 situation at Rehoboth has increased at an alarming rate.
“Most of the cases are concentrated at Dr Lemmer High School, with 20 confirmed cases since 8 February, of which 11 have recovered and nine are active,” Platt said.
He urged continued protection against and enforcement of Covid-19 safety measures, such as mask wearing, sanitising, and social distancing at schools while the authorities conduct contact tracing and identify symptomatic and asymptomatic cases.
“Maintaining vigilance, collaboration and adherence to public health guidelines are vital in preventing the spread of Covid-19 within the school and community.
“Collaboration between health authorities, schools and parents is essential for effective monitoring and management of the situation,” the health director said.
