Africa-Press – Namibia. Mariental Sport Club will host South African football legend Jomo Sono during their crucial fixtures against Friends FC and City Boys FC this weekend.

NFA Southern Stream First Division (SSFD) outfit Mariental Sport Club (SC) has announced former South African football legend Jomo ‘ Troublemaker’ Sono’s visit to Mariental over the coming weekend.

Sono, also known as the ‘Black Prince of South African Soccer’, will see Mariental SC in action against archrival Friends FC at Mariental Stadium while the town’s outfit play host to City Boys FC at the same venue on Sunday.

Mariental Sport Club this week announced on Facebook that Sono will visit Mariental for an unforgettable football weekend.

“This is your exclusive opportunity to witness greatness up close and cheer for your team in the presence of a football icon.

“Bring your friends, family, and your passion for the beautiful game, because these moments only come once in a lifetime,” the statement reads.

“Be there, be loud, and make memories that will last forever.”

These matches are not just about competition; they are an opportunity for fans to witness a football icon in action and to be part of a historic moment for the community, the statement says.

Quoted by Rhuuksie Phantom ConneXion Media, Mariental Sports Club chairperson, Frederick Jod, expressed his enthusiasm about the visit.

“Our motivation for inviting Jomo Sono was to bring a legendary figure of the game to Mariental and to inspire our players and supporters.”

Jod said Sono’s presence is bound to motivate young talent and uplift the local football scene.

“We believe his presence will inspire our youth, encouraging them to pursue their dreams in football,” he explained.

“We hope supporters and the community will take away a message of passion, dedication, and hope for the future of our sport. This visit aligns perfectly with our long-term vision to develop football at Mariental and to create opportunities for our youth.”

Football agent Collin April will also attend the event.

This extraordinary event is more than a game; it’s a celebration of football, community, and the enduring legacy of one of Africa’s greatest football icons.

Mariental SC leads the SSFD log standing with 38 points, the same number of points as second-placed Young Brazilians FC.

However, Mariental SC weekend’s opponents Friends FC and City Boys FC are fifth and sixth on 29 and 28 points, respectively.
