Africa-Press – Namibia. The Swakoppoort Dam is still above full capacity and continues to spill, with the Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) urging the public to remain cautious of potential flooding.

According to NamWater, the Swakoppoort Dam recorded a water capacity of 104.4% on Monday, 31 March 2025.

“Residents in low-lying areas downstream of spilling dams should remain cautious of potential flooding. Communities are urged to exercise vigilance around water bodies and avoid unnecessary risks,” NamWater’s Head of Public Relations and Corporate Communications, Lot Ndamanomhata, said.

Several other dams in the country have also seen an increase in water levels over the past week. The Neckartal Dam recorded a water capacity of 91.3% on Monday, rising from 88.3% the previous Monday, 25 March 2025. Meanwhile, the Naute Dam rose from 55.8% last Monday to 62.1% this Monday, and the Oanob Dam increased from 56.8% to 68.9% during the same period.

The Hardap Dam has also continued to see a rise in water levels, increasing from 63.9% last Monday to 74.7% this Monday. According to Andries Kok, NamWater’s Business South representative, the Hardap Dam continued to rise over the past day, recording a water capacity of 74.8% this morning (Tuesday, 1 April 2025).

“NamWater continues to monitor inflows and will provide updates as conditions evolve. While these inflows are a welcome boost to water security, conservation remains crucial to ensure long-term water security,” Ndamanomhata added.
