Swapo reinstates Oniipa Mayor

Africa-Press – Namibia. SWAPO Party local authority councilor and Mayor of Oniipa town in the Oshikoto Region, Augustus Jafet Nangolo, who was suspended by his party’s district executive in January, has been reinstated.

Regional coordinator Armas Amukwiyu, who signed the suspension letter on January 16, also signed Nangolo’s reinstatement letter dated April 15.

Nangolo was accused of supporting the opposition by accepting nomination as Mayor by an IPC councilor. His acceptance of the nomination was interpreted as an act contrary to the aims, objectives, and policies of the Swapo Party.

Nangolo’s reaction to the suspension was to dismiss the accusations and accuse Amukwiyu of being on a crusade to destroy the party.

In the reinstatement letter, Amukwiyu stated that Nangolo’s suspension prompted intervention from the Regional Executive and the Party’s politburo.

Amukwiyu mentioned that during a meeting held at Oniipa on April 6, attended by Secretary-General Sophia Shaningwa, Nangolo demonstrated remorse and offered an unconditional apology to the Oniipa District leadership and the entire rank and file of the Swapo Party.
