A TRAGIC weekend on Namibian roads claimed three lives in separate crashes across Windhoek, Omaruru, and Kalkfeld, with incidents involving a hit-and-run, a fatal overtaking collision, and a devastating head-on truck crash.

According to the weekend crime bulletin, an incident near Kalkfeld, a 49-year-old truck driver died instantly in a head-on collision between two trucks on the C33 road, about 10 kilometres outside the settlement, at around 06:10 on Sunday. Preliminary investigations suggest that a truck with a Walvis Bay registration number was travelling in the wrong lane when the collision occurred. The deceased driver was reportedly thrown from his vehicle and died at the scene.

In Windhoek, a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run incident in the early hours of Saturday. According to the police, the accident occurred around 02:22 at the intersection of Hendrik Witbooi and Hercules streets in Dorado Park. It is alleged that a silver VW Amarok struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the road, before fleeing the scene. Police are investigating and searching for the driver.

Later the same day, in a separate incident around 20:00, a 31-year-old man died in a collision about 20 kilometres from Omaruru on the Omaruru–Karibib road. Police reports indicate that a truck was attempting a U-turn across the road when a blue VW Polo, which was overtaking, crashed into the truck’s front right tyre and overturned. The deceased was an occupant of the Polo. A case of culpable homicide and reckless or negligent driving has been opened.

Police investigations in all three cases are ongoing.
