Africa-Press – Namibia. TotalEnergies is gearing up for the launch of its massive Venus Development Project offshore Namibia later this year.
Kevin McLachlan, TotalEnergies’ Head of Exploration, underscored the remarkable subsurface findings from the discovery well and two completed drill stem tests, with two more tests currently underway. McLachlan expressed confidence in the project’s potential.
McLachlan detailed a reservoir system spanning 150 kilometres, emphasising its impressive interconnectedness. He pointed out favourable vertical connectivity and a solid pressure correlation between appraisal and discovery wells.
Despite low permeability, McLachlan commended the viscosity of the oil, describing it as very favourable, mitigating potential limitations. While McLachlan did not disclose the exact magnitude of the Venus discovery, Namibian authorities previously estimated it to contain 5 billion barrels of oil in place, with 2 billion barrels considered recoverable.
Moreover, McLachlan hinted at the potential of the Mangetti discovery, suggesting reserves in place totalling 1.5 billion barrels, with a potential recovery of 600 million barrels.
