Africa-Press – Namibia. THREE family members who tragically lost their lives when a truck carrying stones fell on top of their car near the University of Namibia (UNAM) have been positively identified.
The deceased, who had to be removed from their crashed vehicle with the jaws of life equipment, were identified as Letitia Sylvester, a 51-year-old female; Rhain Sylvester, an 18-year-old male; and Willow-Mae Martin, a 3-year-old toddler.
According to Senior Inspector Hilma Amutenya, public relations officer within the Namibian Police, the incident happened on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at 12:00 at the Mandume Ndemufayo traffic lights next to UNAM.
“It is alleged that a collision occurred between a white tipper truck loaded with building stones and a blue Nissan Note. It is alleged that the traffic lights were green for both and the truck had the right of way, but allegedly the driver of the Nissan Note cut in front of the truck, resulting in the collision. It is alleged that the truck fell on top of the Nissan Note, covering it with the building stones,” Amutenya said.
The driver of the Nissan Note, however, survived the incident and is said to be in critical condition, while the driver of the truck was also injured and is reported to be in stable condition.
