Africa-Press – Namibia. A GREAT century by Craig Williams led WHS Old Boys to a crushing 248-run victory against CCD in the Namibian 50-over Premier League competition on Saturday.
After being sent in to bat by CCD, Old Boys got off to a solid start as Williams and Green put on 87 runs for the first wicket off only 15 overs at close to six runs an over.
Green was dismissed by Nicol Loftie Eaton for 30 off 41 balls (3×4), but Malan Kruger joined Williams to put Old Boys firmly in charge with a century partnership.
Williams went on to reach his century off 94 balls, while he added 169 runs for the second wicket before Kruger was dismissed for 69 off 60 balls (6×4, 3×6).
Williams continued to attack the bowlers before eventually being dismissed for 184 off 148 balls (13×4, 9×6), while Old Boys reached a huge total of 321 for five wickets off 45 overs.
The match was reduced to 45 overs due to a wet pitch after overnight rain. Ben Shikongo was CCD’s best bowler, taking two wickets for 62 runs off nine overs, while Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Ben Burger and Ramon Wilmot took one wicket each.
CCD were soon in trouble when Melrich Robyn bowled Wilmot for one, and from then on they lost regular wickets. Stephen Baard (11), Loftie-Eaton (21) and Jaden Cloete (12) were the only batsmen to reach double figures as the whole side was dismissed for a paltry 73 runs to give Old Boys a huge 248-run victory.
For Old Boys, Malan Kruger took three wickets for eight runs off four overs, while JP Kotze took 2/4 and Robyn 2/22. VAN LINGEN SHINES FOR UNITED At Trustco United Park, Michael van Lingen scored a great century to lead United to a 92 run victory over MR24/7 Welwitschia, in a match reduced to 35 overs due to a wet pitch.
After being sent in to bat, United got off to a solid start with Shaun Fouce scoring 21 and Darren van Dyk 15, before Van Lingen and Lohan Louwrens put United in charge with a century partnership.
Louwrens was dismissed for 43 off 37 balls (1×4, 2×6) but Van Lingen went on to reach his century off 69 balls, before he was eventually dismissed for 151 runs off 89 balls (15×4, 6×6).
Further down the order, Hendrik van der Walt and Brendan Britten both scored 21 as United amassed 298 for five wickets off their 35 overs. For Welwitschia, Nyasha Nyashadzaishe took two wickets for 57 runs off seven overs, while Salomon Nuuyoma took 2/56 off seven overs.
In Welwitschia’s innings, Sean Silver was dismissed early for one run, while SJ Loftie-Eaton scored 10, but Nyashadzaishe (55 off 41 balls, 5×4, 2×6) and Walter Fokkkens (30) revived the innings with a 48-run partnership.
Further down the order there were useful contributions from Robert Herridge (21), William Lottering (20) and Justus Hangula (25), but Welwitschia never got close to the target as they reached 206 for nine wickets off their 35 overs. For United, Louwrens, Van Lingen, Van der Walt, Shaun Fouche and Nico Pieters each took one wicket.
