Africa-Press – Niger. The Governor of Niger State, Sani Bello, has announced that a major financial group has partnered with the state government to boost tourism in the state.
According to a statement sent to Merrymakers, the decision of the foreign investor to invest in the Shagunu Beach Resort ‘was the outcome of Governor Bello’s foreign investment drives in recent times’. Located in the Borgu Local Government Area of the state, the resort has been a major investment centre.
The state’s Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Chidawa Adamu, stated that the governor was determined to make Shagunu Beach Resort ‘one of the country’s top tourism sites and a destination of first choice’.
She said, “Governor Bello has been committed and consistent in driving growth and developments in Niger State. One of his focal points is to make the Shagunu Beach Resort come alive as one of Nigeria’s top tourism sites.
In a similar vein, the Lead Consultant and Chief Executive Officer of Marcom Support Services Limited, Mr Hakeem Akintunde, stated that it gladdened his heart that the resort had got the attention of a global financial player, noting that for over three years, the state government had embarked on aggressive infrastructural development of communities in the area.
He went on to say that the project, which is conceived as a Public-Private Partnership on Build, Operate and Own Model, is aimed at putting the state on the global tourism map while boosting its internally generated revenue.
He added, “It is our mandate to market and project this God-given resort to the outside world and investors with the hope of making the beach the first of its kind in Nigeria and South of the Sahara.
The statement added that the resort which occupies a 1000-hectare land, offers limitless prospects for positive growth associated with the tourism industry.
Other side attractions and landmarks of the beach are the Kainji National Park (which contains Kainji Lake), the Borgu Game Reserve and the Zugurma Game Reserve.
