Africa-Press – Nigeria. Gunmen have abducted the newly elected vice chairman of Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, Alhaji Saidu.
The hoodlums also abducted councillors representing Zarawuyaku and Miringa wards in the area.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday evening along the road between Kamuya village and Buni Yadi while the officials were travelling from Biu to Maiduguri.
Unidentified passengers travelling in a Hizbah vehicle from Potiskum, Yobe State, to Biu were also abducted in the attack. Sources confirmed that one of the councillors taken was the immediate past vice chairman of Biu LGA.
A politician who requested anonymity appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted officials and other captives safely.
The 120 km stretch from Biu through Buratai, Kamuya, Buni, and Damaturu has long been a flashpoint for violence, with numerous reports of killings and abductions along the route.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident.
