Africa-Press – Nigeria. Tension gripped residents of the Omi-Ata area in Meiran, Lagos State, following a deadly cult-related attack that led to the killing of a young man identified only as Rahman.

The incident, which occurred on Monday night, was reportedly carried out by a group of armed men suspected to be members of a rival cult group. According to local sources, the attackers stormed the community and pursued Rahman to his family residence. On sighting the group, Rahman attempted to flee and sought refuge in a nearby house, but the assailants tracked him down and killed him.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that Rahman was allegedly affiliated with the Aye confraternity, while his attackers were said to be members of the rival Eiye group. During the attack, other occupants of the house where Rahman was cornered reportedly sustained injuries, triggering panic among residents who fled the scene for safety.

A local resident who spoke under condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the case said the murder appeared to be part of an ongoing reprisal between rival cult factions operating in the area.

Other reports from anti-cultism advocacy platform NaijaConfra suggest that Rahman’s murder may be linked to the earlier killing of his close associate, Chidi, in the same vicinity. According to the group, Rahman had gone into hiding following Chidi’s death but recently returned to the area before being killed at Oyetoro Street near the Omi-Ata bus stop.

Efforts to get an official response from the Lagos State Police Command were unsuccessful as the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, had not responded to enquiries at the time of filing this report.
