The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has embarked on a nationwide strike.
This is coming on the heels of a fuel scarcity across the country.
The union’s action followed the refusal of Neconde Energy Limited, an oil company, to recall some workers it sacked.
PENGASSAN, whose members are workers in the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry, is demanding that the sacked workers be reinstated.
Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum resources, had tried to broker peace between the two parties, but he was unsuccessful.
Africa Press understands that the Department of State Services (DSS) is meeting with the union’s leaders to reach an amicable resolution.
