Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence, NSCDC, has arrested three contractors for alleged theft and vandalisation of critical power transmission equipment belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Osogbo Substation.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Kehinde Adeleke, the suspects were apprehended for allegedly stealing and damaging equipment vital to power transmission operations.

The three suspects, identified as Adigwe, 52, Bomi, 39, and Seyi, 42, are employees of contracting firms engaged by TCN in Osogbo, Osun State.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Igbalawole Sotiyo, confirmed that the suspects were arrested on November 1, 2025 while dismantling three 132KV DS contact isolators kept in a container designated for storing tools and materials at the TCN Osogbo Substation.

“Discreet investigation confirmed that five out of eighteen DS contact isolators were found dismantled by the suspects,” the commandant said.

He disclosed that one of the suspects, identified as Adigwe, a supervisor with one of the contracting firms, admitted that his team tampered with the DS contacts without proper authorisation from the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

Sotiyo added that the actions of the suspects were conducted without the presence or authorisation of a valid TCN permit holder, describing the act as unauthorised interference with critical national infrastructure.

He further stated that all three suspects were found in possession of three out of the eighteen DS contact isolators belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

“Upon completion of investigation, they will be charged to court in accordance with extant laws on the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure,” Sotiyo stated.

The NSCDC commandant reiterated the Corps’ commitment to protecting national infrastructure and public utilities across Osun State.

He warned individuals, contractors, and organisations to desist from tampering with, stealing, or vandalising public assets, stressing that anyone caught engaging in such acts would face the full wrath of the law.
