Africa-Press – Nigeria. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action over the rising wave of attacks across the country, urging the President to match his words with concrete steps to protect citizens.

Atiku made the call in a statement on Monday via his official X handle, while reacting to recent attacks in Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa and Kaduna States.

He reminded the President of his earlier assurance that the attack in Angwan Rukuba in Plateau State would not happen again, expressing concern that another deadly incident occurred shortly after the statement.

“I wish to remind President Bola Tinubu to keep to his words that ‘this (Angwan Rukuba attack) will not repeat itself.’ It does appear that those words are hollow because barely 72 hours later, another attack in Benue State claimed over a dozen lives,” Atiku said.

The former Vice president also raised alarm over reports that families in a Nasarawa community were forced to flee their homes on foot amid threats of attack.

He further lamented a fresh incident in Kaduna State at the weekend, describing the development as troubling.

According to Atiku, the primary responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and property as well as the welfare of its citizens.

“The Commander-in-Chief should brace up to the challenges of governance. Enough of these hollow rhetoric, Mr. President. It is time to fold your sleeves and get to work,” he stated.

Atiku also extended his sympathies to families who lost loved ones in the attacks.

“Meanwhile, my thoughts and prayers are with the families who may have lost dear ones in these attacks,” he added.
