Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Bauchi State Government has dismissed reports suggesting that five police officers killed in Darazo Local Government Area were victims of a bandit ambush, insisting the incident was a communal dispute that turned violent.
Governor Bala Mohammed clarified the situation on Tuesday during an extraordinary State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Bauchi. He said the events of November 22 in Sabon Sara village were linked to a herder-farmer conflict, not banditry as widely speculated.
The police spokesperson in the state, Ahmed Wakil, had earlier stated that the officers were attacked by unidentified youths while intervening in the dispute. Governor Mohammed reinforced that position, stressing that the perpetrators would be identified and held accountable.
The governor also defended the temporary closure of schools across Bauchi, explaining that the move was based on intelligence from security agencies. He said the decision was a proactive step to prevent possible threats, especially given recent school-related attacks in other northern states. He added that the government is working to strengthen security in schools located in high-risk communities.
On economic matters, Governor Mohammed revealed that Bauchi State is preparing to secure foreign loans aimed at boosting infrastructure and human development. He said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve governance and set the state on a path to sustainable growth.
