Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Aloy Ejimakor, has alleged threats to his life his handing the Biafra agitator’s case.
Ejimakor said he has been facing threats to his life and blackmail since Kanu defeated the Nigerian government over his extraordinary rendition.
In June 2021, security agents had arrested Kanu in Kenya and subjected him to extraordinary rendition back to Nigeria.
Upon his return, Court’s have discharged and acquitted Kanu but the Nigerian government has refused to set him free.
However, Ejimakor in a podcast with Chief Chidi Nwanyanwu said: “Some of these people blackmailing me are using of these victory to prosecute successful asylum around the world, what greater evil can you see than that?
“The same thing goes for the high court of Enugu State when I succeeded under very difficult conditions, I have faced a lot of threats to my safety and in handling these cases while still keeping my head on my shoulder, it can only be by the grace of God.
“I have aged exponentially since 2021 I took over this cases, I wasn’t looking this elderly, it has taken a toll on me but I work happily, stoically, and very proudly.
“When I filed that petition seeking to upturn the declaration of IPOB as terrorist group, they were blackmailing me that ‘you are not IPOB lawyer’, how can you quarrel with success?
“I’m fighting for you and you are telling me that I’m not an IPOB lawyer, if I’m a lawyer to Nnamdi Kanu and he briefs me which everybody knows, automatically I’m an IPOB lawyer.
“Sometimes I face challenges in court because the Federal government will seize on that to file a motion challenging my rights to file the case, they will be filing all these evidence but I overcome them anyway.”
