Kano Bye-Election Thugs Arraigned for Electoral Offences

Africa-Press – Nigeria. Kano State Police Command has arraigned 333 suspected political thugs arrested during last Saturday’s by-election for various electoral offences.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists on the security operations in Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa constituencies.

He said the suspects, armed with cutlasses, pump-action rifles, locally made pistols and other weapons, attempted to disrupt the election but were intercepted by joint security operatives.

Bakori confirmed that the suspects were charged with disorderly conduct, possession of offensive weapons, intimidation, snatching and destruction of election materials.

He added that exhibits recovered from them included arms, cash totalling N4,048,000, and other dangerous objects.

The suspects were arraigned before Magistrate Courts in Nomansland and Gyadi-Gyadi, Kano, for prosecution.
