The legislation, sponsored by Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, was passed on Monday during plenary at the Assembly complex in Lafia.

Announcing the passage, Speaker Danladi Jatau said the bill represents a major step towards integrating environmental sustainability into governance across all sectors of the state’s economy.

Under the provisions of the new law, a Climate Change Advisory Committee will be established, to be chaired by the state governor, with the mandate to coordinate policies, develop adaptation strategies, and guide state agencies on climate-related initiatives.

Jatau directed the Clerk of the House to prepare a clean copy of the bill and forward it to Governor Abdullahi Sule for his assent.
