National Convention Shakes Obono-Obla's Faith in APC

Africa-Press – Nigeria. A former presidential aide, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, has said he has lost faith in the All Progressives Congress, APC, following the party’s national convention.

Obono-Obla made this disclosure in a statement titled, ‘Reflections on My Party Journey’, which he issued in Calabar.

The former chairman of Special Presidential Panel on Recovery of Public Property under Ex-President Muhammadu Buhari had publicly declared his interest to vie for the office of National Secretary of the APC but was told that the previous zoning arrangement remains in place, and as a result, the incumbent was returned.

Obono-Obla then declared his interest in the office of National Publicity Secretary. But again he was denied.

Reacting to the outcome of the national convention, he wrote: “My faith in the Party to which I have given my all since 2013 is now badly shaken, more than ever before.

“In 2022, the Party denied me the opportunity to contest as a Senatorial Candidate, but I did not mind. I continued to work tirelessly for its success at both the National and State Elections in 2023.

“Day after day, I dedicated myself to promoting, propagating, and defending the Party and its government across social, traditional, and new media. Yet, as I reflect and ponder my next move, it seems that some individuals who only recently joined the Party are working hard to push out foundation members—sadly, with the support of the leadership.”

He stated that the situation calls for deep reflection as his commitment however remains unquestionable, but the path ahead must be chosen with clarity and courage.

He noted with tint of anger that the struggle for relevance and recognition within the party was ongoing.

He nonetheless affirmed that his resolve to stand firm in his personal principles remains unshaken.
