Yobe govt warns against erecting illegal structures

Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Yobe State Government said it will not hesitate to remove any structure built without prior authorisation across the state.

This was disclosed by the Director General of Yobe State Geographic Information Service (YOGIS), Dr Abdullahi Hassan Gana, in a statement made available to newsmen via his media aide, Usman Ibrahim Geidam.

According to the statement, YOGIS, as a regulatory body responsible for land administration and development control, emphasised the importance of adhering to the established guidelines and procedures.

It noted that unauthorised temporary structures not only pose safety hazards but also undermine the orderly development of the state.

“YOGIS will take decisive actions to ensure compliance with these regulations. Any temporary structure found to be in violation of the permit requirements will be promptly removed”, the agency warned.

It further warned that individuals involved in erecting or operating such structures without proper authorization will be subjected to the full extent of the law.

YOGIS further tasked all banks, filling stations, private schools, restaurants, factories, and bakeries, among others, across the state to update their title documents and pay their ground rents.

It said the Right of Occupancy can be updated from 05/6/2023 to 03/07/23 at the agency’s headquarters, and failure to comply within the stipulated time attracts a 10% violation penalty.
