Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwandan peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) have been decorated with UN service medals, in recognition of their role in protecting civilians and strengthening stability.
The ceremony took place at Bossembele Base Camp in Ombella-M’Poko Prefecture, on Tuesday, August 12, with Col Mohamed Said, Deputy Sector Commander for Sector West, presiding on behalf of the MINUSCA Force Commander.
Said hailed the Rwandan contingent, RWABAT-2, for the professionalism and resilience they have demonstrated over the past ten months.
“On behalf of the MINUSCA Force Commander and the entire MINUSCA leadership, let me congratulate you for serving with unwavering courage, professionalism, and dedication in one of the most challenging peacekeeping environments,” he said.
“Your commitment to protecting civilians, supporting stability, and upholding the principles of the United Nations has left a lasting impact on the local communities in your areas of responsibility.”
He described the UN service medal as more than just a token of recognition, but a powerful symbol of gratitude for peacekeepers who perform their duties with dedication and sacrifice.
Said also extended his appreciation to the Rwanda Defence Force leadership for consistently deploying “well-trained, well-equipped, and mission-ready troops,” noting that Rwanda’s contribution to international peacekeeping continues to set a high standard.
RWABAT-2 contingent commander, Lt Col Ndanyuzwe Muzindutsi, acknowledged the collaboration and support received from both MINUSCA leadership and local authorities during their mission.
“These medals are a motivation for us to continue our duties with courage and sacrifice,” he said, reaffirming the contingent’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities until the mission’s conclusion.
Since their deployment, RWABAT-2 has carried out critical operations along Main Supply Route One, the strategic lifeline linking Bangui to Cameroon.
Their activities have included regular patrols, protection of supply convoys, and road clearance operations, all aimed at ensuring the corridor remains secure and accessible for both humanitarian and economic purposes.
