Africa-Press – Rwanda. The 2025 Refugee Inter-camp Games got off to a thrilling start on Monday, August 11, as football and basketball teams battled for early supremacy in the group stages.

Fans were treated to end-to-end action, dramatic finishes, and standout performances that set the tone for an electrifying tournament which is organized annually by the Ministry in charge of Emergency Management (MINEMA) in partnership with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR-Rwanda).

In football, Mahama FC made an early statement and edged past Kiziba with a narrow 1-0 victory, while Nyabiheke held Mugombwa to a hard-earned 1-1 draw in a match where both sides displayed tactical discipline and defensive grit.

In other Group A fixtures Kigeme pulled off a 3-1 triumph over Nkamira, while ETM thrashed Kigali Urban 2-0.

Basketball fans in the area also witnessed high-scoring clashes from three point shooters, free throws.

In Group A, Mugombwa edged Mahama in a nail-biting 55-54 win while, Group B saw Nyabiheke overpower Kiziba with an emphatic 81-61 victory.

With such an intense competition on opening day, all eyes now turn to the next round of fixtures, where early leaders will look to consolidate their positions, and underdogs aim for a rebound.
