Rwandan Mozambican Chiefs Review Cabo Delgado Efforts

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Maj Gen Vincent Gatama, the Commander of Rwanda Security Forces Joint Task Force (JTF) in Mozambique’s northernmost province of Cabo Delgado, received Brig Gen Tomás Francisco João Mponha, the Deputy Army Commander of the Mozambique Armed Forces (FADM), in the port city of Mocímboa da Praia, on Saturday, December 20.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, the meeting was held to jointly review the security situation in Cabo Delgado, to familiarise the FADM Deputy Army Commander – whose office was recently relocated from the provincial capital, Pemba, to Mocímboa da Praia – with the RSF leadership, and to reaffirm the strong cooperation between the two forces in the fight against terrorism in the province.

During their discussions, the two commanders focused on enhancing operational coordination and information sharing.

Since 2022, at the request of Maputo, Kigali deployed forces to Cabo Delgado Province to help combat ISIS-linked terrorism and insecurity. In collaboration with Mozambican forces, Rwandan troops dislodged the terror groups from several towns including their main bases in Mocimboa da Praia and many other localities.
