Africa-Press – Rwanda. The European Union Council has listed Rwanda among countries which travel restrictions into the EU should be lifted. The council adds that the move was adopted following a review under the recommendation on the gradual lifting of the temporary restrictions on non-essential travel into the European Union.
“As from September 23, member states should gradually lift the travel restrictions at the external borders for residents of the following countries,” read the communique from the council as it lists Rwanda. The list also includes Chile, Kuwait, Singapore, Canada, Australia, Jordan, New Zealand and Ukraine among others.
To lift the travel restrictions, the EU considers different criteria including epidemiological situation, overall response to Covid-19, as well as the reliability of the available information and data sources.
The travel ban is lifted from Rwanda, after the country had been commended by the World Health Organization for reaching the September 2021 target of inoculating 10% of its population.
As Covid-19 cases have dropped, the country has lifted some of the Covid-19 restrictions as curfew hours have been pushed to 11PM as schools and places of worship are open.
