Africa-Press – Rwanda. Ugandan shot stopper Simon Tamale reveals he struggled to adapt to early life at Rayon Sports because he lacked of trust from former head coach Zelfani Yamen.
Tamale signed a one-year deal with the Blues in June after an impeccable season with former club Maroons where he was the Uganda Premier League goalkeeper of the 2022/23 season.
However, the goalkeeper had a slow start to the season and he lost his starting role between the posts as Zelfani opted to start either Bonheur Hategekimana or a fit Adolphe Hakizimana in favor of the Ugandan.
Tamale returned in the starting lineup on Wednesday, October 11, and helped Rayon record their first Primus National League victory in four matches after beating Etoile de l’Est 2-1 at Kigali Pele Stadium.
Zelfani’s sacking from Rayon Sports was good news to Tamale who slammed the Tunisian for not trusting his capabilities and give him a chance to show what he would offer to the team.
“I didn’t have the coach’s confidence when I was with him but now, I can see my chances are coming and I have to take them,” the goalkeeper said.
The lanky custodian started his career at Lungujja Galaxy as a teenager before moving to Police FC.
He now hopes to maintain his starting berth ahead of Sunday’s clash with Musanze at Ubworoherane Stadium.
