Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda U18 on Thursday, May 8, overcame Burundi to maintain their unbeaten run in the in ongoing IHF Trophy Africa/Zone V which underway at Old Kampala Sports Arena.

Rwanda U18, who are enjoying an impressive form at the tournament, finished the first half leading narrowly with 20-18 ahead of Burundi before coming back in the second half looking more aggressive enough to extend their lead to 10 as they won the match 45-35.

Léa Uwineza was named Player of the Match.

Meanwhile, Kenya U20 dominated Rwanda’s junior team in their Group B final game with a 32-29 win.

The loss puts Rwanda in tough fixture in the semifinal where they may face hosts Uganda while Kenya, who beat Rwanda, could face Burundi on Friday.

With a 2-1-win-loss record, Rwanda now sit on second place of Group B which also lead by Kenya who is unbeaten, followed by Tanzania and Djibouti.

Kenya who looked sharp and aggressive against Rwanda led the game from the first half, where they finished break with 19-15.

But from the first half break, Rwanda kept pushing for the equalizer but Kenya’s good defense kept Aphrodice Sindayigaya’s team side at bay as they went on the win 32-29.

The Zone 5 women’s youth and junior tournaments of the IHF Trophy Africa will be concluded on Saturday.

The tournaments serve as qualification event for the Continental Phase of the IHF Trophy Africa.
