Africa-Press – Rwanda. The National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) has released the results of the 2024/2025 national examinations for Primary Six (PLE) and Ordinary Level (O’Level), showing an overall pass rate of 75.64 percent for PLE and 64.35 percent for O’Level.

NESA announced the results on Tuesday, August 19. Out of 219,926 registered PLE candidates, 166,334 passed, representing 75.64 percent. Among them, girls made up 53.2 percent, while boys accounted for 46.8 percent.

For O’Level, 149,206 candidates registered for the exams, with 148,702 sitting and 148,676 graded. Of these, 95,674 passed, giving an overall pass rate of 64.35 percent.

Performance analysis

NESA Director General Bernard Bahati explained that while the pass rate may appear lower compared to previous years, the analysis shows a significant improvement in student performance.

Here, he pointed out that the number of candidates with low scores has significantly decreased. For example, students scoring between 30-40 percent dropped from 45,148 last year to 10,916 this year.

Meanwhile, the number of students achieving higher marks increased, with those scoring 50-60 percent rising from 24,925 last year to 41,269 this year.

“While the overall pass rate might look lower, the quality of performance has improved significantly. More learners moved from the failing categories to stronger performance levels,” Bahati emphasized.

Speaking during the release of the exam results, education minister Joseph Nsengimana commended teachers for their commitment, particularly in implementing the remedial programme that began seven months ago.

He noted that the programme played a key role in improving results and confirmed that starting with the new academic year, remedial lessons will be extended to all students.

“The goal is to strengthen the quality of education so that learners gain the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to Rwanda’s development and build the country we want and deserve,” Nsengimana said.
