Burundian point guard Nelly Sandra Nsanzabaganwa bagged a game-high 20 points and added five rebounds and four assists to power Kepler to a hard-fought 70-63 Game 2 win over APR at Petit Stade Indoor gymnasium in Remera on Wednesday, August 13.

Kepler extended their lead to 2-0 in the best-of-five semifinals series and moved to within one game away from advancing to the finals. They won Game 1 65-46 on Sunday.

APR won the first quarter 19-17 before both teams went 11-11 level in the second quarter as the pair headed into halftime with a 30-28 lead in favour of the army side.

Kepler, currently under Spanish coach Luis Lopez Hernandez, were flying high going into the second half as they launched a comeback to prevent APR from bringing the series level.

Nsanzabaganwa led the charge as her team took the third quarter 19-18 and the last quarter 23-15.

American Young Desi-Rae Yvonne and Henriette Uwimpuhwe also contributed 18 and 14 respectively to Kepler’s winning cause.

Both teams return to action for Game 3 on Sunday, August 17, with Kepler now pushing for a spot in the finals and bring the APR-REG duopoly in Rwandan women’s basketball to an end.

In the earlier game of the semifinals playoffs series, REG took Game 2 after beating the Hoops 102–42. The win also saw the electricians extend their lead to 2-0.

The semifinals playoffs of the women’s basketball league are played in a best-of-five series, while the finals will be extended to a best-of-seven series.
