Africa-Press – Rwanda. Police VC came from a set down to beat Rwanda Energy Group (REG) in four sets (23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21) in the fourth round of the national volleyball league.
REG were eager to win the match on the inauguration of Ste Famille Gymnasium which will be their home volleyball indoor ground thought the season. They showed their intent by taking the opening set, but Fred Musoni’s side roared back to achieve a comeback after winning three straight sets.
Action started with both sides going toe-to-toe in the first set. They were tied 14-14 before REG VC opened a two-point gap to claim the set 25-23.
This put Musoni’s men in a tough position after Gisagara VC handed them the first defeat of the season the previous weekend.
However, receiving attacker Elphas Makuto orchestrated the attacks and brought his team back into rhythm after claiming the second set 25-18.
With the game tied to one set all, REG hoped to catch up and retain the lead in the third set but, as soon, Musoni fielded youngster Patrick Ishimwe, things went Police’s way at they bagged the third and fourth sets 25-21 each.
“Every game is a surprise. They secured the first set, which put pressure on us, but I told my team it’s still possible, and that’s why we pushed through. Ishimwe gave his best effort; I saw great potential in him, and he’s making good progress,” Musoni told Times Sport.
Earlier in the evening, APR WVC continued their winning run with the third straight win after dominating East Africa University Rwanda (EAUR) in three sets (25-14, 25-21, 25-20).
Action continues on Saturday, November 8, at the same venue.
