Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rayon Sports have suspended head coach Robertinho Oliveira after a poor run of results which saw the club lose ground in the title race. Former Rayon women’s coach Claude Rwaka takes over as caretaker.
The club said in a statement on Monday, April 14, that Robertinho was suspended due to ‘illness’ but reports indicate that the decision was takes due to the club’s poor run of results under the Brazilian in the recent games.
The Blues have won twice in their last 10 games in all competitions and have gone on to lose the top spot to archrivals APR FC in the Rwanda Premier League. They now trail them by a single point.
The club suspended goalkeepers coach Andre Mazimpaka, after questioning his contribution to due to the recent performances of first choice goalkeeper Khadime Ndiaye whose goalkeeping mistakes cost the club the top spot in the title race.
In Robertinho’s absence, Rwaka will take charge of the team starting with Tuesday’s trip to Huye Stadium where they will face Mukura Victory Sports in the first leg game of the Peace Cup semifinals.
Rwaka was appointed as assistant coach of Rayon Sports earlier this month replacing Emmanuel Hakizimana. He was brought to the men’s coaching staff after inspiring Rayon Sports Women’s club to their second straight league title.
