Africa-Press – Rwanda. The 2025 Genocide Memorial Tournament (GMT) for tennis has been shaped by surprises, dominance and upsets take centre stage since it started at Kicukiro Ecology Tennis Club on May 10.

Organised annually by the Rwanda Tennis Federation (FRT) in partnership with the National Olympic Committee, the tournament honours the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi through sports, particularly tennis.

This year’s tournament is attracted 217 participants across various categories, including singles professional, amateurs and seniors (aged 60 and above). Wheelchair tennis is also represented to make the tournament inclusive.

The amateur category, which is in the quarterfinals, attracted 90 players competing in men’s category and 16 in women. Both the single professional category (47 men and 16 women) and the wheelchair category (16 men and women) are currently in the semi-finals while 16 participants in the men seniors category are into the semifinals.

The amateur category is also featuring mixed doubles matches.

All matches are taking place at Kicukiro Ecology Tennis courts at IPRC-Kigali.
