Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda’s Producer Price Index (PPI) increased by 13.9 per cent in February 2026 compared to the same month last year, reflecting rising costs across major sectors, especially electricity, mining and manufacturing, new data shows.
According to the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR), the prices for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply registered the sharpest annual increase at 34.8 per cent, followed by mining and quarrying at 20.1 per cent and manufacturing at 12.8 per cent.
On a month-on-month basis, the general PPI rose by 7.7 per cent in February, largely due to an 8.8 per cent increase in manufacturing prices.
Within manufacturing, prices for food products jumped by 17.1 per cent during the month, while beverages increased by 3.2 per cent.
The statistics office also reported that the local PPI rose by 12.7 per cent year on year and 8.4 per cent month on month, while the export PPI increased by 17.9 per cent annually and 1.9 per cent monthly.
Export prices were mainly pushed up by a 20.1 per cent rise in mining and quarrying and a 9.9 per cent increase in manufacturing.
NISR said the PPI methodology was revised beginning with the November 2025 index, with 2024 set as the new base year and weights derived from the 2024 national accounts.
