Africa-Press – Rwanda. APR FC failed to reach the final of the CECAFA Kagame Cup in Dar es Salaam after losing 3-1 to Al Hilal Omdurman on Saturday, September 13.
The Rwandan champions were leading 1-0 through a 30th minute goal from William Togui until Abdelrazig Taha equalized in the 82nd minute to force the match in extra time.
Al Hilal completed the comeback win with two quick more goals in either half of the extra time to see off APR in stunning fashion.
Not long after the extra time kick off, Ruboneka returned the ball at the back and passed it to goalkeeper Ruhamyanyiko but Al Hilal striker Sunday Damirale touch it firs to score the second goal.
APR FC looked so discouraged and the Sudanese team scored the third goal in the 106th minute through Ahmed Salem.
Al Hilal finally took their revenge against APR who had eliminated them from the semifinals of the same competition in 2024 after beating them 5-4 on penalties. The game had ended goalless after the extra time.
Al Hilal will face Singida Black Stars in the final on Sunday. The latter advanced after beating KMC FC 2-0 in another semifinal.
The 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup, sponsored by Betika, will see the top three sides receive medals and cash prizes.
The cash prize supported by the Rwanda President, Paul Kagame will see the winner bag US$30,000, the runner-up US$20,000 and the third placed team US$10,000.
