Africa-Press – Rwanda. Renowned Cameroonian boxer Carlos Takam has unveiled plans to establish a boxing academy in Rwanda as part of his ongoing efforts to develop the sport across Africa.

The veteran’s Carlos Takam Foundation and the local boxing governing body earlier this week formalized a three-year Memorandum of Understanding through which the two parties agreed to implement he boxer’s ambitious vision.

Speaking to the press, Council Member of Carlos Takam Foundation Ntoudi Mouyelo declared that Rwanda will be the host of the upcoming boxing academy, a cornerstone of the boxer’s vision for Africa.

“Takam has a vision for Africa and he was looking for a destination to build his vision and he decided Rwanda to be the host and home for his vision,” Ntoudi said.

“For the Carlos Takam Foundation, it was crucial to establish a partnership with the Rwanda Boxing Federation to kick-start joint efforts in promoting boxing throughout Rwanda and the African continent,” he added.

Besides promoting boxing, Ntoudi revealed that the Foundation will also work with the federation to support education of aspiring boxers to help them prepare a better future.

“We believe education is equally important for young athletes, and we want athletes in Rwanda to excel both in the ring and at school,” Ntoudi said.

“We envision an academy here in Rwanda that will develop the best boxing talents in Africa, producing many Olympic champions.”

Hailing the partnership with Carlos Takam Foundation, Rwanda Boxing Federation President Vick Kalisa commended incoming benefits for the country’s young boxers.

“This partnership will provide our young boxers with more competitions, which will enable them to hone their skills and improve their performance,” Kalisa said.

Moreover, he said, Takam’s foundation will sponsor school fees for athletes selected to their academy, a significant contribution to the development of boxing in Rwanda.
