Cycling: Munyaneza sprints past Tuyizere to win Amahoro Criterium race

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Cyclist Didier Munyaneza rode all the way to beat rival Etienne Tuyizere to the finish line at Amahoro Stadium and win Amahoro Criterium race on Saturday, February 8.

The race organized by local cycling governing body (Ferwacy) to test the level of riders who will represent Rwanda at the much-anticipated 17th Tour du Rwanda on February 23 to March 2.

The race attracted four teams including Team Rwanda, May Stars, Java-InovoTec, all which will take part in Tour du Rwanda 2025, as well as Team Benediction.

The riders competed in 12 laps of 3.9 kilometers each. Only 37 athletes finished the race.

Munyaneza of Team Rwanda dominated the race sprinting to the finish line after one hour, one minute and 30 seconds. He was less than a second ahead of Tuyizere of Java-InovoTec and Jean Claude Nzafashwanayo of Team Rwanda who finished in second and third places respectively.

Tuyizere claimed the victory in men’s U23 category, well ahead of his teammate Mugalu Shafik while Espoir Uhiriwe of Benediction finished in third place.
