Cycling: Youth Racing Cup heads back in Rwamagana

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Following the success of Bugesera edition in October, the monthly Youth Racing Cup will shift to Rwamagana on Sunday, November 16.

The monthly race is a grassroots cycling development event featuring riders aged between 11 and 19. It features young cyclists who compete in five categories namely pupilles (Under 11), Benjamins (Under 13), Minimes (Under 15), Cadets (Under 17), and Juniors (Under 19).

The November edition will precede final round expected in December.

According to Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) Vice-President Valentin Bigango, there is a plan to expand the race to other districts in 2026 from initial itineraries in Bugesera, Rwamagana and Kigali.

“Since we started this journey, the results speak for themselves. Even our major cycling event, Tour du Rwanda, now features riders who came from these youth races,” he told Times Sport.

“That’s why we are planning to expand this grassroots event to other destinations, with Huye among the districts likely to host similar youth races next year,”

Currently, the Youth Race Cup is hosted in three districts besides Kigali City namely Bugesera, Rwamagana, and Musanze.

Donatha Akimana from Nyabihu Cycling Academy and Jules Mugabo of Zip Cycling Team both competing in U19 category, are the reigning winners of the previous edition held at the Field of Dreams in Bugesera.

Meanwhile, Fuade Mukwende of Les Amis Sportif and Cynthia Nishimwe from Ndabaga Cycling Team will also aim to defend their victory in Bugesera in the U17 boys category.
