Africa-Press – Rwanda. Egypt topped the medal table of the 18th Rhythmic Gymnastics championship with a total of 16 medals.
The North Africans showed their class in the championship held at BK Arena in Kigali from April 25 to April 26 as they outperformed other 13 participating nations, including hosts Rwanda, to bag the highest number of medals.
Team Egypt have thus booked their ticket for Paris 2024 Olympic Games scheduled from July 26 to August 11 while Alia Saleh, also Egyptian, qualified for the Olympics in individual category.
Their 16 medals overall included 9 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze.
Angola were second with 6 medals including 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze while South Africa had 4 silver and one bronze. Tunisia were ranked fourth with 3 bronze.

Meanwhile, Rwandan gymnasts failed to win a single medal, despite competing at home, with captain Ruth Ntagisanimana being country’s the best performer(10th) while Stacy Igisigo Maldadi emerged 11th in hoop and ball category.
In all, a total of 109 athletes representing 14 countries participated in the championship in Kigali which also served as the Olympic Games qualifier.
The group all-around competition in Rhythmic gymnastics was added to the Olympics in 1996 in Atalanta. At the international level, it is a sport designated for only women.
