Rwanda Premier League champions APR FC were held to a goalless draw by SC Kiyovu at Kigali Pele Stadium on Saturday.

The result leaves APR in fourth position with seven points, while Kiyovu sit just behind with six points.

APR’s Ugandan midfielder Ronald Ssekiganda was sent off in the 80th minute after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Abdulrahman Rukundo.

His first booking came earlier in the match for a challenge on David Niyo.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, APR managed to hold on as Kiyovu launched several late attacks. Kiyovu’s midfielder Keddy Nsanzimfura, a former APR player, was named Man of the Match after a brilliant individual performance.

APR started poorly, with their midfield losing possession twice in dangerous areas, giving Kiyovu early opportunities on which they failed to capitalise.

Later in the first half, winger Hakim Kiwanuka missed two chances for APR, while Jean Bosco Ruboneka forced a good save from Kiyovu’s goalkeeper.

In the 42nd minute, Claude Niyomugabo delivered a fine cross to Lamine Bah, whose header was stopped by the goalkeeper. The teams went into halftime level at 0-0.

In the second half, Kiyovu came back stronger. Nsanzimfura tested APR goalkeeper Pierre Ishimwe several times with long-range efforts, but Ishimwe stood firm.

After Ssekiganda’s dismissal in the 80th minute, Kiyovu pressed hard for a winner, but Ishimwe made a superb late save in the 89th minute to deny Nsanzimfura once again, ensuring APR escaped with a point.
