Rwanda 60-41 Tanzania
Laissa Ndaruhutse scored 17 points as Rwanda on Tuesday ran away with a dominant 60-41 win over Tanzania in their Group A opening game of the 2025 FIBA U16 girls African Championship held at Petit Stade.
Rebecca Ishimwe and Chalva Gaju added 15 and 13 points respectively, to help Joseline Munyaneza’s side begin the campaign with an important win.
“We are very happy about this win and we are ready to face Tunisia. We are going to prepare and come back strong,” Munyaneza said.
The girls’ Afrobasket tournament attracted 11 teams which were split into three groups of four, except Group A which includes hosts Rwanda, Tunisia and Tanzania.
Rwanda will return to action on Monday, September 8 for Game Two against Tunisia. All games are taking place at Petit Stade.
Meanwhile, Rwandan boys will take on Angola in the opening game of the same championship tonight, tip-off 7pm at Petit Stade.
The competition, which also serves as a qualifier for the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2026, brought together 23 national teams in both boys and girls’ categories.
