Rwanda Premier League unveils new individual awards

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Players, coaches, and even fans will receive special rewards for their performances in the Rwanda Premier League, following the introduction of new awards designed to boost competition and excitement in the league.

For the first time, the best player of the season will drive away with a brand-new car worth Rwf 15 million. The move is part of a wider initiative that will see top performers recognised on a weekly, monthly, and seasonal basis.

According to the new scheme, the best player of each match will earn Rwf 100,000, while the player of the week will be awarded Rwf 200,000. At the end of every month, the player of the month will receive Rwf 400,000, the coach of the month Rwf 300,000, and the goalkeeper of the month Rwf 200,000.

Rwanda Premier League chairman, Yussuf Mudaheranwa, said the introduction of these awards marks a new chapter for Rwandan football.

“This is going to raise competition in the league because every player will want to stand out. It will also keep them working hard until the very last game, as everyone will be chasing these prizes. For the first time in Rwanda, we are offering a car as a prize for the player of the season, which is a historic milestone,” he said.

The initiative also involves fan engagement. Supporters who actively participate in match-day promotions will be eligible for prizes, with the best fan set to receive Rwf 25,000 per match. Fans will also get the chance to vote for the weekly best player from a shortlist of eight nominees.

Jean Paul Habumugisha, one of the partners behind the initiative, said the awards are intended to inspire both players and fans.

“These prizes will motivate players to perform better and nurture their talent, while also rewarding fans who passionately support the league. It is about creating a stronger football culture in Rwanda,” he noted.
