Africa-Press – Senegal. The prefect of the department of Oussouye (Ziguinchor, south) chaired, on Friday, a departmental development committee (CDD) devoted to the preparations for “Humeubeul”, this great celebration of the king of Oussouye which marks the start of the harvest, noted the APS.
The 2023 edition will be celebrated between September 20 and the beginning of October, according to the organizers.
« Ce CRD est consacré à la préparation de l’édition 2023 du +Humeubeul+, la fête du roi d’Oussouye. Nous voulons assurer un bon déroulement de cet événement cultuel et culturel du royaume d’Oussouye », a expliqué le préfet d’Oussouye, Maurice Latir Dione.
Il présidait cette rencontre en présence du maire d’Oussouye, Ousmane Diallo, des représentants du roi d’Oussouye, des chefs de services déconcentrés de l’Etat, entre autres participants.
“The expectations for the smooth running of this cultural event relate to issues of security, health, hygiene, among others,” listed the prefect of Oussouye.
Every year, at the end of the winter, the “Humeubeul” brings together all the villages of the kingdom of Oussouye. Localities in Kassa, another name given to this kingdom, such as Kahinda, Oukout, Boukitingo, Carounate and Mlomp take part in this flagship event under the direction of the king of Oussouye, Sibiloumbaye Diédhiou.
“The event is punctuated by dance sessions, moments of prayer and no-knock wrestling matches, among other activities,” explained Souleymane Diédhiou, communications officer for the King of Oussouye.
He recalled that “this festival has a traditional phase, a religious phase and a cultural phase”.
Le Humeubeul dure 18 jours, dont 15 jours de prières à l’intérieur du bois sacré. « Les trois autres jours sont réservés à la phase culturelle », a-t-il précisé, rappelant que cette année sera la 23 ème édition de la fête depuis l’intronisation du roi Sibiloumbaye Diédhiou. M. Diédhiou a rappelé que la présente édition est placée sous le thème de l’environnement.
Dix-septième roi d’Oussouye, Sibiloumbaye Diédhiou a été intronisé le 17 janvier 2000.
