Beau Vallon petrol station to reopen tomorrow after six-month refurbishment

Africa-Press – Seychelles. The petrol station at Beau Vallon is set to reopen its doors tomorrow, Friday April 1, 2022, after undergoing a major overhauling to better serve the users, especially those in the northern region of the country.

Owned by the Seychelles Petroleum Company (Seypec), the newly renovated station will feature a wide range of improvements in terms of storage conditions and general aesthetic aspects of the location.

“We have worked to re-develop this outlet to be in line with new industry norms for petrol station buildings, meet increasing demand and replace the old infrastructure, mainly the underground tanks and pipelines. In so doing, we are creating a compelling offer to serve the community with fuel and LPG needs, conveniently,” said Ray Hoareau, Seypec general manager operations and technical.

Composite tanks have replaced the old steel ones for durability and better for corrosion control. New HDPE pipelines have been installed, HDPE being a type of flexible plastic pipe used for fluid and gas transfer made from the thermoplastic HDPE, its high level of permeability and strong molecular bond making it more suitable for high pressure pipelines. The electrical network has undergone a major upgrade, the forefront canopy and main building roofs redone, as well as the boundary walls. The tarmac has been resurfaced with the forecourt area looking tidier and the drive through the station much smoother. A new signage totem and a new CCTV system have also been installed.

On the LPG side, the storage shed has been replaced by a new one which is now on the same side of the customer parking area offering an easier access to the cylinders.

“The Beau Vallon petrol station itself was built over 40 years ago and the mechanical, structural and electrical infrastructure were overdue for complete refurbishment, to ensure the station can serve the inhabitants of Beau Vallon and surrounding area, for a further 25 years,” added Mr Hoareau.

In the year 2000, Seypec embarked on a project to revamp all its petrol stations on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, to bring them in line with new industry norms for petrol station buildings. Beau Vallon was the last one on schedule, after Victoria North Petrol Station was constructed and put in operation, to ensure that inhabitants of the northern region of Mahé have an alternative station while the Beau Vallon petrol station was closed. The Bel Ombre marine refuelling station which was commissioned during the works period to serve the fishing community will remain open after the restart of the Beau Vallon petrol station operations.

Works on the Beau Vallon Station started six months ago and were carried out by Laxmanbhai & Co following a tender exercise when five class 1 building and civil contractors were invited to participate.

The Beau Vallon petrol filling station is very much at the heart of the community, providing a service for residents and, for those commuting into or driving through the area. The re-opening of the station will now continue to be the very popular place for refuelling with enhanced fuel delivery services to its customers as from April 1, 2022.
