Africa-Press – Seychelles. Chelsea have confirmed that head coach Enzo Maresca has left the club with immediate effect, bringing his spell as head coach at Stamford Bridge to an end.
The decision comes after internal discussions with the board, following a run of poor results and increasing uncertainty over the club’s direction. A club statement reads:
“Chelsea Football Club and Head Coach Enzo Maresca have parted company.
“During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
“Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the Club.
“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions, including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the Club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track.
“We wish Enzo well for the future.”
Sky Sports chief correspondent Kaveh Solhekol claimed that Strasbourg head coach Liam Rosenior is among a small group of candidates being considered to replace Maresca at Chelsea. The club is expected to announce a new head coach within days.
Solhekol said the decision to part ways with Maresca was driven largely by results. Chelsea have managed just one win in their last seven league matches and have dropped 20 points from winning positions this season across the Premier League and the Champions League.
There were also internal disagreements over player welfare, particularly return-to-play protocols after injury.
According to Solhekol, Chelsea operates an independent medical department that has the final say on when players can return and how much they can play, and the head coach is not allowed to overrule those decisions.
In addition, links between Maresca and Manchester City appearing in the media were seen as an unwanted distraction, especially at a time when results on the pitch were falling short of expectations.
