As Seychelles observes its annual Careers Week, attention has turned to those working behind the scenes to guide and inspire the next generation. One such individual is Sir Kenneth Pierre – a name well known in education circles – who holds the unique distinction of being the only qualified Seychellois male Personal, Social, Careers and Citizenship Education (PSCE) teacher within the education ministry.
PSCE is a vital subject in the national curriculum, helping students develop personal and social skills, understand their rights and responsibilities, and prepare for adult life. It touches on everything from civic education and the environment, to cultural identity and careers guidance – preparing young Seychellois to contribute to society.
